Program Offerings

The offering of an academic masters by the Graduate Program in Agroecology follows the criteria established by the Federal University of Viçosa, which are included in the Graduate Regulations, approved by the  institution’s Graduate Technical Council (available at: http://www.soc.ufv.br/wp-content/uploads/18-16.pdf).

Entrance into the program generally occurs at the beginning of the first and second semester of each school year. International students receive scholarships from their own countries or can apply for a scholarship from PEC-PG/CNPq (Post-Graduate Agreement Student Program / National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). The master’s degree in Agroecology functions in stricto sensu and has a duration of at least 1 (one) year and at most 3 (three) years, starting from the date of registration. The maximum duration of scholarships are for 24 (twenty-four) months. The master’s curriculum is organized in the form of theoretical and / or practical subjects taught in lectures, seminars, directed studies, technical visits or with other didactic-pedagogical methods.

The basic unit for evaluating the intensity and duration of the courses is by credit, in which 1 (one) credit is equivalent to 15 (fifteen) hours of didactic activities.

According to the Graduate Regulations of UFV and the Regimen of the Graduate Program in Agroecology, the title of  Magister Scientiae will be awarded to students who:

  1. Complete at least 24 (twenty-four) credits worth of courses  recommended by the graduate program (according to the regulations of the Graduate Program in Agroecology) with a cumulative grade greater than or equal to 75 (seventy-five) percent. The program doesn’t offer a specific course.
  2. Meet the foreign language requirements.
  3. Meet the requirements of the seminar course.
  4. Complete at least 50% of all coursework from the concentration course list.
  5. Submit a scientific article for publication before defending.
  6. Submit a final version of the dissertation to the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, after the defense and approval of the board.

 

The program also has a postdoctoral scholarship – PNPD/CAPES (Postdoctoral Program/  Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) – that began in May 2015 and continues to select a postdoctoral scholar after the launch of a public notice.
